US and Chinese patent for drug from cow urine
An anti-cancer drug extracted from cow urine has got a US and Chinese patent for its anti-genotoxicity. The drug brand named ‘Kamdhenu Ark’ was developed by an affiliate of the RSS Go Vigyan Anusandhan Kendra and had earlier got the US patent as a bio-enhancer with antibiotics and anti-cancer drugs. The Anusandhan Kendra and National Environmental Engineer Research Institute (NEERI) had jointly carried out the research.
Re-distilled Cow Urine Distillate (RCUD) was found to be useful in protecting and repairing DNA from oxidative damage, which is a leading cause of ageing, cancer and other diseases. RCUD works against genotoxicity, a harmful action on a cell’s genetic material as it contains benzoic acid, hexonic acid and ammonia in quantities ranging from five to 15 ml per litre.
The Anusandhan Kendra works for protecting Indian cow breeds and conducts research into the role of the cow and its progeny in betterment of human life.

Pilot flight planning patent awarded to FlightPrep
FlightPrep the creator of the innovative Polaris 990 Personal GPS and the cabin entertainment mapping systems has been awarded a US patent for an online flight planning system. Every pilot in the US has to use valid flight charts whenever taking off in a plane and these charts expire every six months - and every region has a different edition. Now, pilots do not depend on paper charts as they are able to do their flight planing online and print their trip kits with charts on their computer.
Inventors Roger M. Stenbock and Kyle B. Everson were awarded U.S. Patent for an Internet browser based online flight planning product which reduces the use of regular flight charts and is updated automatically.
The invention was originally filed in 2001 and assigned to Stenbock & Everson Inc. Roger Stenbock & Kyle Everson founded FlightPrep, a division of Stenbock & Everson, Inc. in 1997.
FlightPrep’s Online Planner can display charts and routes interactively from data stored on an Internet server. The invention cites the ability for the user to interactively modify routes without downloading the entire chart after each change.

Konkan Railway gets US patent for anti-collision device
The Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) has been granted the anti-collision device (ACD) patent in the US for its ‘Track Identification System'(TIS). This patent is in addition to the ACD patents that have been granted to KRCL in India and abroad earlier.
KRCL's ACD system can prevent head-on and rear-end collisions in mid-sections, collisions at high speed in the station area, side collisions with derailed vehicles obstructing adjacent line, collisions due to train parting/jumbling and collisions with road vehicles at level crossings. The Loco ACDs also give ‘Station Approach’ warning to drivers.
This ACD system was commissioned in North-East Frontier Railway in June 2007. The work of installation of ACD Network is being carried out on the South Western Railway, South Central Railway and Southern Railway.
The Track Identification System ensures that when a train fitted with ACD traverses a point and crossing zone of the station yard, the unique TIS residing in it will detect automatically whether the train has deviated to the other track or not.
KRCL already has 18 patents granted for Sky Bus, ACD and TIS in India and United States, Singapore, China and Russia.
