World Intellectual Property Day to be celebrated on April 26

World Intellectual Property Day is observed on April 26 every year. This year we will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of this World IP Day. This is also the 40th anniversary of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Convention.

This occasion was initiated by the  WIPO in 2001 to make the general public aware of the role of IP in the economic, social and cultural development and to celebrate the contribution made by innovators and artists to the development of societies around the world. It was on this date (April 26) on which the Convention establishing the WIPO entered into force in 1970.

WIPO and its Member States observe World IP Day with activities, events and campaigns intending to increase public understanding of what is IP and how it affects them. The theme of World IP Day in this commemorative year is “Innovation – Linking the World”.

We at Itag have accumulated some words of wisdom and the creative thoughts of imminent personalities from the field of intellectual property. Please have a look.

World IP Day Celebration

ITAG

ITAG celebrated World IP Day on 26th April, 2009. We have sent a poster to WIPO IP Day Gallery, it was selected and published in the WIPO Web site.

http://www.wipo.int/ip-outreach/en/ipday/posters.html

The 26th of April is an important day for all intellectual persons as it is celebrated as World Intellectual Property Day. It is an annual celebration linking IP with creativity thereby promoting innovation and economic growth. This year, the theme of World Intellectual Property Day is green innovation.

In 2000, WIPO's Member States decided to designate an annual World Intellectual Property Day. They chose April 26, the date on which the Convention establishing WIPO originally entered into force in 1970. IP is a business asset that is most often neglected because of ignorance or difficulty in securing Intellectual Property Rights.

The annual event aimed to develop a balanced and accessible international intellectual property (IP) system, this would stimulate innovation, reward creativity and contribute to economic development. These developments should also lead to the development of jobs and employment opportunities across the globe.
